Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Chemical Engineer to join our team.  Under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, the candidate will be responsible for the Quality Department and in charge of Product Development and the lab’s technical team, including the operation of the lab extruder.  Candidate will also assist the Production Manager in the optimization process of various manufacturing equipment and perform the development of new recipes in conjunction with the operation of the twin-screw extrusion equipment.  Candidate will also manage the upcoming ISO Certification process. 
The Chemical Engineer is reliable and able to work with attention to detail and safety standards. The ideal candidate should have experience with thermoplastic and rubber compounding formulas used in the production of the company's products. Candidates monitor their work continually to verify accuracy
with respect to specific established standards.  Being a team player is essential since all tasks will require close collaboration with co-workers. The goal will be to ensure that production procedures will be carried out smoothly to maximize efficiency and profits.


Responsibilities:

  • Daily follow-up of the required technical measurements of the product to ensure proper specifications are met
  • Prepare product formulation and prepare working lab samples and check against appropriate standards (customer specs, published agency specs, ASTM standards specific to the product or application)
  • Qualify incoming raw material and test for process acceptability, such as scrap shipments, other critical raw materials, conductive film, versus RM Biltrite internal specs and supplier specs
  • Ability to explore new recipes and develop new products or replace current recipe compounds with lower cost materials
  • Recommend new equipment, new materials, and processes to achieve increased cost-effective efficiencies
  • Assist the Production Manager in optimizing the equipment set-ups to maximize quality and productivity
  • Supervise of the technical staff and manage the Quality Department
  • Thorough knowledge of extrusion production lines including associated equipment
  • Thorough knowledge of thermoplastic product specifications and recipes
  • Detail proper documentation, technical training, and adherence to established procedures
  • Identify innovation and modern technologies to support business growth initiatives and new production innovation
  • Develop 5S and ISO procedures and obtain ISO Certification

Qualifications

  • ​Education: Degree in Polymer Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • Professional experience of 5-10 years as a Process Engineer or Quality Department Manager  
  • Background in polymer chemistry and thermoplastics
  • Strong solution-driven technical background in manufacturing, operations, and engineering
  • Results oriented with ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment
  • High ethical standard
  • Able to multi-task, resolve technical issues, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
  • Organized individual with ability to set-up technical procedures for Quality Assurance
  • Supervise implementation of the ISO process
  • Experience performing physical testing, desired hardness, gauge, specific gravity, elongation
  • Diplomatic hands-on style of management with conflict-resolutions and decision-making ability
